Oliver Mason is an award-winning filmmaker and editor. His short films have been accepted into festivals around the World, including LSFF, Norwich and Inside Out Toronto. He is a member of BAFTA Connect.
He started out as a runner in BBC Drama then went on to train in script development, but has found his real passion lies in directing and editing.
His short film, Have We Met Before? was made for the BBC and BFI’s scheme Born Digital. It was broadcast on BBC Four and premiered at BFI Southbank in 2019. The film has played at festivals around the world, including BAFTA qualifying Norwich Film Festival, and has been distributed by Peccadillo Pictures.
He has directed short form work for the Tate about Aubrey Beardsley, and Queer artists in Cornwall. In early 2018 he directed and edited the web series, UnPacking, with writer Matthew Hurt.
His previous short film, Away With Me, has featured at the London Short Film Festival, BFI Flare London, In & Out Cannes & Nice, Inside Out Toronto, Rio Festival of Gender & Sexuality and the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. It has been included on the Peccadillo Pictures short film collection, Boys On Film 16: Possession.
As an editor, he has regularly cut work for VICE (including several episodes of the series Queer Sports); TATE gallery; and has cut shorts for Netflix, BBC and the BFI. He has edited branded content for Johnny Walker, GQ, Gillette, D’Usse, Refinery 29, iD and Glamour.
He is currently editing a feature film documentary, Don’t Say Gay, about Section 28. The film is directed by Sarah Drummond, one of 2025’s BFI Flare mentees. He recently completed a short film about the London drag king scene, KINGDOM, directed by Poppy Bullard, which is currently being submitted to festivals.
